Emily's Reading Room

They look so beautiful! I can't wait to read it.

Congrats! I can't wait to read this! *Loved* PRINCESS ACADEMY. :)

Speaking in public gives me hives. >.<

Brittney Crabtree

Oh, I am so excited to read this!

Becca B.

I'm about to go to college and I'm terrified that I'm gonna pick the wrong major or do something wrong and screw up my whole life in the process. Basically, the future in general scares me. But having a new Shannon Hale book would help me find some comfort. I've been reading your books since Goose Girl, they always take me to a happy place.

I can't wait to read it!

James Adams

I think this is probably my favorite of your book covers! I completely understand the cripling fear. Just published my first book last September and my biggest fear is that it'll never take off and I won't be able to finish the series.

oooh. Can't wait. What scares me? Calling people on the phone to ask a favor. Hate hate hate it.

Mallorie Mecham

Oh good heavens! I can't wait!! It's going to be amazing. I can already feel it.

Yay! I can't wait to read it!

I'm scared of going out in public with my daughter, particularly to restaurants or church. She's 17 months old, and in that stage of finding it very difficult to sit still. She's a very smiley and happy child, and she usually charms everyone, but that moment when she's just done with being stuck in one place has been very challenging lately.

Hi Shannon- I can't wait to read it!
Ok, there are so many things that scare me, even though people think I am fearless. At the moment, reading over the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) for my severely autistic son's transition to high school is right at the top of my list. It's a great plan, with more inclusion and educational opportunities than he has been able to do in the past. But it scares the dickens out of me that my baby boy is on his way to HS!!

I'm scared of missing things in life that are important or interesting or might somehow be beneficial to me (but I would never know because I would have missed them! Terrifying!)

I'm also scared of my college's dining (some strange pasta thing with sauce that smells like mildew, today.) But I must eat it in order to stay alive. Thankfully there's a candy shop around the corner.

Kendra Dinger

The book looks fabulous...Something that scares me sometimes...that I have 3 little girls that will grow up to be teenagers! Ahhhh! I think that is super scarry especially since they will all be teenagers at the same time! YIKES!

I am sure that it will be utterly amazing! Everything you write seeps with talent and well thought-out phrases.
If I were to win one of these books...
*Goes into her Happy Land*

I'm so excited! I'm sure it will be wonderful. I'm very uncomfortable (pretty much scared) of asking someone to help. I avoid it if at all possible. Ward Music Leader? Compassionate Service Leader? Pretty much nightmare church callings for me!

I am scared of long flights! But reading a good book in flight always helps me get my mind off things. :)

Janeil Jones

I'm scared of NEVER being able to sleep through the night ever again!

This is terrifically exciting for me, so I can only imagine what it's like for you! ;)

I am sacred of disappointing the people who need me.

AHHH! I'm so excited! It looks amazing! Can't wait to read it! I guess one thing I'm afraid of is having to wait so long to read Palace of Stone!

Stephanie Behling

I'm scared to have more children, because I'm afraid I'm already screwing up the ones I have. But I'm not scared to read your book. I just got Midnight in Austenland from the library and am enjoying it a lot, as I have enjoyed all your books.

Anna Karras

Exellent! How exciting!

Tanya Arnold

Looks fantastic. I am a mom and work as a full time library and technology teacher and am scared I'm not doing enough for my kids or others. Not enough hours. Can't wait to read the book whether I win or not! Thanks for sharing your talent with us!

Blaga Atanassova

I am really excited about this! I loved Miri's story and the world it was set in and want to see how it continues! ^_^

I would looooove to win this!!! I am a huge fan!! I am scared for my oldest to start kindergarten in the fall. Sounds silly and I know he'll love it and do great, but I'm scared of his feelings getting hurt by other kids and him losing his amazing sense of humor and confidence.

Pat Clingman

Hitting a deer or a deer hitting me.

Julie Daines

What scares me? Same as you. I've got a book coming out next year and I already feel the panic. Lucky for you however, your books are ALWAYS beautiful, so you can take a deep breath and relax and wait for the 5-star-ratings to come rolling in.

Micki Jo

I am really excited to read this. I really liked the first one.

I'm scared of opening my art studio. I want to give craft classes but I'm so worried that it won't do well that I'm paralyzed by the fear.

But I can't wait to read this book! I'm a huge fan of your writing. Your stories move me.

I loved the scene in "The Actor and the Housewife" where the family goes to a vacation home to spend time because the dad is dying. When they found that the actor had stocked it all up with games and food and everything -- I was sobbing. It was just so sweet and compassionate.

Jessica Tomas

Oh my gosh!! I can't believe its here already!! I've been going through some really big changes in my life (all positive) and I am scared that certain risks I've been taking are gonna blow up in my face. I'm praying for peace of mind and the trust that I clearly lack but sometimes its hard to put yourself out there. :) Can't wait to read it!!

Katie L

Saying no scares me! Especially saying no to something good, like babysitting for a friend or volunteering for an event. I'm afraid that if I turn someone down even once, they'll stop being my friend. But I'm learning that I'm NOT superwoman (shocker) and its ok to say no when I really don't have the time!

Shannon I thought I couldn't be more excited for Palace of Stone, but that cover is breathtaking! Princess Academy was your first book I read and I've never been the same since. I can't wait to read what happens next!

Megan Smyth

I'm performing in a comedy right now, and I am terrified that audiences won't think I'm funny. I really don't want to disappoint them and be the worst actor on the stage!

Congrats! So very exciting. I am anxious to read it as well.

I have always wanted to have a solo exhibit of my artwork. The time came; I was offered a show and then I was terrified on opening night! While I wanted to be proud of what I had done, I had a fear no one would like it. All went well though and the support of friends and family felt wonderful.

I'm excited at the thought of doing more shows, but so afraid of exposing my hard work to the world! I'd want everyone else to like it, too.

I'm positive your new book is splendid! Thank you for the chance to win!

YAYYYYY! I'm so excited to read this.

I'm scared of sending out my MS. It's gotten good feedback and a request for a full, and an editor that reviewed it last week was very complimentary, yet I hesitate. Because maybe I could do more. Maybe I didn't do enough. Maybe I missed something obvious.

Kiirsi Hellewell

I'm scared of public speaking...like giving talks in church, which I was just asked to do. :) But once I'm up there and the research/preparation is all done, it isn't so scary. I would love an ARC! The cover looks great and I'm sure the story is wonderful, as always!

Hi Shannon! I love all your books. And I LOVE your blog and how honest you are.

I am scared of leaving my baby Arthur with a babysitter when school starts next fall. He will be 18mo then and I've never left him with anyone for more than a day. Right now he comes to my classroom and teaches with me :), but next year he'll be too much toddler to bring along. Thankfully, he'll be with a great friend who has a boy the same age. But I'm still scared!

Lori Folkman

I am scared that I won't win and then I will have to wait until summer to read it, and judging from the weather, summer might not ever come, and then I shall surely die!

Connie Onnie

I don't think it is possible for you t write something I don't love. I love being creative but I have a very hard time sharing things I create.

Super excited for the new book!!!
I'm afraid of people reading my writing as well.

I am so excited to read this! I would be ecstatic if I got to read an ARC!

Lexie C.

That is gorgeous! And considering the first time I met you was at a signing for the first book...it would be a good way to come full circle 5 years later by winning the second book ARC! :D

I would love a copy.

I am scared of so many things, but especially that people will work out that I'm not really grown up at all, and they'll stop treating me as if I was.

Shannon, I honestly cannot wait for this book! Having read all your published books so far, I am certain this book will far from a disappointment. Can't wait to get my hands on it! :)

What scares me? University. I start in September, and I'm very nervous!

Sarah from VA

Beautiful book! I'm so excited to read it. True story: I read Princess Academy out loud to my husband after we were married. (I just didn't tell him the title until we were a couple chapters in.) He loved it, too.

As for something that scares me... sending e-mails. For reals. I can't just knock off an e-mail and hit send. I have to fuss over it. First I remove all the emoticons, because I worry they make me look stupid. Then I worry that with without them I might come off as too severe, so I add a bunch of exclamation points. Then I think, well, I'm not really THAT enthusiastic about the e-mail subject, maybe I should just re-write that paragraph or add a joke or something here. And then I scrap it and start over because I decide the tone is wrong. It's just a whole long terrifying ordeal.

Hmm. Something that scares me but I know is good for me...where to start? Ha. Probably the job search, which I've currently undertaken. I know getting a job is good, but it's terrifying to put myself out there for review. Probably not on the same level as putting out a hotly anticipated book (I'm so excited to read it!), but I feel a slice of your pain.

I am afraid of the same thing. I have been writing this book for the last five years and even though I consider it finished and I like it, I don't want anyone to read it. Like ever. Even though my sister has been asking to for the last year and a half...
Congrats on Palace of Stone! I can't wait to read it. :)

Sometimes I am scared to tell people -- co-workers, family, what have you -- what I need, or if I'm unhappy about something, or if I need some help. It's less scary to put on a brave face and soldier through, even though it's probably not the right choice all of the time.

I'm excited for this book! I have the usual fear of spiders and heights but I'm also afraid of submitting my stories or books for fear of rejection. Maybe I need help with fears... :)

Gretchen Alice

Eep! It's so pretty!
(I'm terrified of roller coasters.)

Really excited to read another one of your books! Congrats on it and I bet it is just shiny!

Hurray! A new Princess Academy book!
