'Cause why not...a little lyrics quiz. See if you can name these tunes without googling! I'm randomly typing up lines from a few songs on my ipod mix. The first to get all right will be rewarded well in the next life, because I'm too lame to offer a temporal prize. I still haven't gotten to the post office to mail the boxes of books from January's contest winners. (They're here, boxed, ready, set....) I'll try to be fair with this and not do anything too obscure, though this probably favors the older set. (Who is Justin Beiber?) I know if Marcus Aurelius checks this he'll get them all because he's creepy good at this stuff. So the challenge: Get as many as you can before Marcus shows ups and cleans house.
1. It's poetry in motion, she turns her tender eyes to me
2. I can feel an angel walking next to me
3. Well it's a darn good life and it's kinda funny
4. My mama loves me, she loves me, she gets down on her knees and hug me
5. She's got apple bottom jeans and boots with the fur
6. It could hold eight kids, four hound dogs, and the piggie we stole from the shed
7. The stranger in my face says he knows my mom and went to my high school
8. All the boys think she's a spy
9. Everybody's gone in the cotton and the corn
10. My friends keep tellin' me that you ain't no good, oh but they don't know that I would leave you if I could
I only have got Low by T-Pain & Hey Baby by No Doubt...Which kind of makes me laugh because when we were singing Karaoke at The Actor & The House Wife we were singing I'm Just A Girl by No Doubt and your sister did not know the song. I was just blown away, I mean she appeared to be close to my age. And you have No Doubt on your ipod.

Ooh! I was thinking this would be a total embarassment, but I know #9. It's from O Brother, Where Art Thou? It's the Siren's song and has probably the most gorgeous three-part harmony EVER.
Posted by: Q | June 25, 2010 at 05:53 PM
I cheated and searched google for answers, but I did know 1, 2, 6, 9. I'm embarrassed I didn't know Bette Davis!
Posted by: Rachel | June 25, 2010 at 06:43 PM
I know nothing at all. I am creepy bad at these sort of things.
Posted by: hwalk | June 25, 2010 at 07:28 PM
wow. #6 is the only one I recognize!
But being lazy, and following the rules, I won't goggle the rest. I'll just check back once everyone else answers and read the comments!

Shelley: #4 is by Paul Simon. My dad's been singing that song since I was a baby . . . .
Posted by: Brynne | June 25, 2010 at 08:40 PM
Oooh, I love lyric-related contests. And immaterial prizes--the best kind! Let's see...
4. This one is Paul Simon...I'm trying to remember the name of the song. Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard, I think.
9. Emmylou Harris and Gillian Welch from the Oh Brother Where Art Thou Soundtrack--"Didn't Leave Nobody But the Baby"
That's all I got. The rest left me flummoxed. Some quite intriguing lyrics, however.

None at all. I'm so bad at this stuff unless it involves musicals or opera.

I only knew #4 and #9. Fun quiz, though!

Shannon, both you and Triple R used the phrase "called out" in relation to this post.
And I LOVE it!
Number 5 is kinda outside of my perview. I had to reach pretty low into my recollections to get get it. It caused me a lot of T-Pain. Luckily a few guys I know are a big fan of the hippiyt-hop music, so I didn't need to fail.
You still have excellent taste in music, my gestating friend. Now I have to go and listen to my Thomas Dolby. Good heavens, Miss Yakamoto! You're beautiful!
Folks are still havihng too much fun for me to spoil the ride.
(P.S. In Sixth Sense? Bruce Willis' character is actually dea... f.)
Um.
We should link to that page that has, like, one hundred of these. It's fun!
Posted by: Marcus Aurelius | June 26, 2010 at 04:37 PM
Wow, I am so bad. I didn't get ANY of them.
Too bad you aren't having a boy and a girl, cause if you were my mom came up with a good suggestion for you--Aidan and Nadia. :D :D :D :D
Posted by: Caroline | June 26, 2010 at 07:29 PM
You can't be that much older than me, and I used to be a music freak, but the only one of those I've ever heard is the one from Oh Brother, Where Art Thou.
Very different music tastes, I guess.

I only knew Grandma's Feather Bed, which is really sad as I have a degree in music (singing no less), but can I use the excuse that I studied classical technique? Fun quiz.

hear gushing stories in the coming days about how cute his every little sigh and expression were. I asked her how he was doing about ten days after he was born and she told me that he was still in the hospital.
