Great interview! I thoroughly enjoyed reading The True Meaning of Smekday, and I love your insightful questions, Shannon.

Ruby

Thanks, Shannon and Adam for the interview. I am unfamiliar with The True Meaning of Smekday, but I shall add it to my must read list.

Yay! The True Meaning of Smekday sounds like a truly wonderful and funny book! Thanks so much, Miss Shannon and Mr. Adam, for the splendiforous interview! :) Oh, and Miss Shannon, would you please say hi to Magpie and Max for me? Your descriptions of their overall perfectness makes me feel like I've actually met them!

We love, love, love Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich at our house. Love it. Enormously. Monstrously, even.

"The Phantom of the Opera can't get 'It's a Small World' out of his head."

"Zombie Samba Zombie Mamba Mamba Mambo Zombie Zoo."

Must. Read. Smekday.

These interviews always help me know how to write better, and how to not do things like label books. Every book has a purpose right? So I'll definitely look up Smekday. And Shannon, I was at the library the other day and a poster of "Reader's Choice" was up on the wall. There were a whole bunch of them, and so was "Austenland." And guess what? It was winning :D. I was so proud.

"And I have unmanageable hair. Also I smell.
Oh, and thank you."

I haven't read the book yet, but I agree, Adam is funny. ;) Thanks for the interview.

I've not read any books by Adam Rex. But simply the fact that the alien goes by J.Lo makes me want to read "Smekday." Next time I'm at Borders.... oh, wait. The next book is....and then there's....hmm.
Well, it's on my list.

(By the way, I like your glasses.) =D

Completely off topic: This may sound weird, as I don't know you in person, but I had a dream last night with you as the main star. Sadly, you told me I really should pursue another line of work (instead of writing). I know that in real life, you would never say that to anyone, so it was definitely a dream! At any rate, I just shrugged and said I couldn't do anything BUT write. Maybe it was my subconscious telling me I need to stick to my guns, even if there's stiff competition out there? :-)

That was a great interview! I actually have The True Meaning of Smekday but, uh, I haven't read it yet. It's near the tippy-top of my TBR pile, though, if that counts, and getting closer every day, especially as I continue to hear such wonderful things about it.

Gretchen

His website is awesomely hilarious. Love the artwork! You're crazy talented, man.

Heather

Such a good interview! I now really want to meet [you] Mr. Rex. Such great insights (and humor) all around.

Miss Erin

Fab fab interview. I laughed out loud at least a couple of times. :D

I beginning to think, Ms. Hale, you are monitoring my reading list and then procuring interviews with all my favorite authors.
Megan Whalen, if I don’t get another Gen book soon I will expire.
Linda Sue park, I was up ‘til 2 last night finishing "Keeping Score", Willie Mays in now my favorite player although he never played for the Mariners.
Jennifer Holm, I just had leftover meatloaf for lunch and I’m thrilled I will never need to return to Middle School.
Now Adam Rex, how sublime! Last year I ran a very unofficial “Mock Newbery” where I read hopeful books, reviewed them (with absolutely no qualifications whatsoever), and then came up with my own picks, right before the official guys announced theirs. Smekday was the giddiest book I reviewed. I don’t think it ever had a chance of getting the Newbery committee's eye, but the world needs more books about six-legged aliens with hearts of gold.

Shanmin D.

Oh wow! I really want to read this book! Thanks for this interview, it really grabbed my interest.

I realize that I am posting almost a year after the original post, but I had to say thanks. I read Smekday because of this interview and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! I didn't just fall for Tip and J.Lo, I fell hard and completely. I miss them and hope that Adam will write more about them. Smekday is not only hilarious and original, it is also tender and thought provoking. It also made me pray that I will never have to live in a casino with no electricity(shivers). I would never have known to pray for that otherwise, you know.
